Google review plaque: NFC or QR code?
Plaques, displays, cards, stickers: stands that link to a Google review page have multiplied on counters. They rely on two technologies, QR code and NFC, often combined on the same object. Here is what sets them apart, and how to choose.
The QR code
The customer opens the camera, frames the code, then taps the link that appears. Every smartphone with a camera can read it, but it takes several steps, and a damaged or poorly lit code is hard to read. If the code links directly to your Google page, changing the link means reprinting it.
NFC
The customer holds their phone near the stand: the review page opens, with no camera and no framing. Reading is automatic on iPhone XS and later, and on Android when NFC is turned on. On iPhone 7 to X, it goes through Control Center.
Which one to choose?
The two complement each other. NFC is the fastest; the QR code covers phones without NFC. A stand that shows both reaches every customer.
Plaque, card or tag?
The shape matters less than the location. A plaque sits on the counter, a card slips in with the bill, a tag sticks near the payment terminal or on a table. At ORA, review stands come as a tag or a card, and the card combines both: an NFC chip and a QR code.
What Google allows
Whatever the stand, two rules: no reward in exchange for a review (discount, gift, loyalty points), and the same invitation for every customer, happy or not. A stand on the counter follows these rules: it makes reviews easier to leave, for everyone.
A link that can change
With an ORA stand, the link stored in the chip can be changed from your space: a new listing, or a redirect to your Instagram for a while, without replacing the stand.
